Mrs. Winifred Dare Cox Roberson, age 90 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. She was born in Patrick County on October 16, 1917 to the late King David and Lilly Pilson Cox. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roberson was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wilson Roberson; and infant daughter, Lydia Kaye Roberson; four sisters, Agnes Bell, Hazel Atkinson, Mildred Shelton and Thelma Jennings; and two brothers, Phillip Cox and Ralph Cox. She was a graduate of Radford College, had taught in the public school system, and had been an assistant postmaster at Woolwine. She had been a volunteer with the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies for several years, as well as other volunteer agencies. She was a very active member of Woolwine United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Roberson is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Vivian Roberson of Lake Monticello; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Charles Carter, Jr. of Troutville; five grandchildren, Marc Roberson, Jeff Roberson, Keely Carter, Travis Carter and Dominique Carter Gutierrez, and husband, Bertrand; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roberson will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Woolwine United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Hyde and Rev. Kay Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
