Ms. Bebe Georgette Rakes

Ms. Bebe Georgette Rakes, age 53 of Bassett, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at her home. She was born in Henry County on September 12, 1962 and was preceded in death by her father, George Tyler Rakes. In addition to her father, Ms. Rakes was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Cassie L. Foley. She was a member of Fairway Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and worked with the youth. She had been the office manager at Commercial Fyr-Fyter’s. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially during the fall season.

Ms. Rakes is survived by two sons, Travis Dwayne Hambrick and wife, Kayla of Bassett and Joshua Tyler Hambrick of Stuart; three grandchildren, Riley Tanner Hambrick, Raylan Kaleb Hambrick and Hailey Lynn Hambrick; her mother and step-father, Shirlee Foley Powell and Forrest L. Powell, Jr. of Bassett; a sister, Cindy Rakes Seay of Fieldale; a step-sister, Deborah Baar of Smith Mountain Lake; a step-brother, Lee Allen Powell of Wirtz; and two nephews, Sean Seay and Brian Seay.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairway Baptist Church with Pastor Kirk Montgomery and Pastor Rick Randall officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
