Ms. Elonzia A. "Griff" Griffith

Ms. Elonzia A. "Griff" Griffith, age 79 of Woolwine, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born in Patrick County on November 30, 1931 to the late William Frank Griffith and Lena Roberson Griffith. In addition to her parents, Ms. Griffith was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ithmer, Earl, Caris, Carl, Landis, Calvin, Winfred and Charles Griffith; and four sisters, Viva Turner, Vilrie Griffith, Beatrice Moran and Bernadene Byrd. She retired as a staff sergeant with the Women's Army Corps. Upon her retirement, she lived in Florida for many years before returning to Griffith Valley where she lived with her nephew, Anthony Byrd.
Ms. Griffith is survived by four brothers, Enos Griffith of Roanoke, Bethel Griffith of Eden, Merton Griffith of Eden and Frank Griffith, Jr. of Floyd; three sisters, Martha Conner, Shirley Martin and Julia Scott, all of Woolwine; a best friend, Lee Rauth of Florida, her beloved dog, Blossom, and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date. If desired, memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 5001 W. Broad St., Suite 226, Richmond, Virginia 23230, or to your local animal shelter. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements.
