Ms. Ethel Smith Carter

Ms. Ethel Smith Carter, age 71 of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in North Carolina on August 17, 1936 to the late Edward Smith and Juanita King Smith of Martinsville. In addition to her father, Ms. Carter was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Alcorn. She had worked with Stanley Furniture Industries, and was a member of Zion Hill Holiness Church.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Carter is survived by one daughter, Patricia Alcorn Hairston of Martinsville; one son, Jeffery Lynwood Alcorn of Martinsville; three brothers, Edward Smith, Jr. of Greenwich, Connecticut, Morris S. "Smitty" Smith of Martinsville and Orbin "Big O" Smith of Martinsville; and one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley S. and George Flood of Martinsville.
Funeral services for Ms. Carter will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Bishop Randy Minor officiating. Burial will follow in Samaria Holiness Church Cemetery.
