Ms. Hallie Mae Hall Bates

Ms. Hallie Mae Hall Bates, 77, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at her home. Ms. Bates was born December 15, 1940, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Samson and Pauline Weddle Hall. Hallie retired from Spencer’s Inc. and was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Mayes and son-in-law, Jamie Mayes, and Jessica Bates and boyfriend, Jacob Wilson both of Cana; six grandchildren, Logan Utt, Hassidy Bates, Harvey Lee Edwards, Jr., Madison Mayes, Samuel Jess Edwards, and Connor Mayes; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Randy Utt of Cana, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger Lee and Sue Hall of Cana, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Bates was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lou Howell and Edith Smith; and a brother, Freddy Hall. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 29, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
