Ms. Linda Gale Hopkins, age 68, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at her home after a long illness. She was the daughter of Barbara A. Hopkins, her devoted caregiver, and the late Paul J. Hopkins.
She had been a popular feature writer for the Enterprise newspaper in Stuart, VA for many years, and had received many letters from its subscribers over that period praising her writing that included topics ranging from baseball, to Siamese cats, to thoroughbred race horses. She had worked for J.P. Stevens Corporation for eleven years and later worked as the children’s librarian at Patrick County Library and at the library in Pilot Mountain, NC. She had also been an interviewer for the Patrick County Project that recorded oral history from many local residents of the area in the early 1980’s.
Linda was a devoted supporter of the Patrick Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) and an advocate for the protection of animals of all types. She enjoyed reading, writing, and listening to music-from the Big Band era to the Beatles and especially Paul McCartney. When her health permitted, one of her favorite things was spending time at Myrtle Beach, a place she longed to return to almost until the time of her death.
Surviving in addition to her mother, are a brother and sister-in-law, David and Vada Hopkins of Stuart; two nieces, Andrea Hopkins of Stuart, Sondra Miller and her husband, Brian of Concord, NC; two great nephews, Alex and Draden; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and her devoted special friend, John Reynolds of Critz.
All services will be private, but those who wish to do are encouraged to make contributions in memory of Linda to P.A.W.S., P.O. Box 743, Stuart, VA 24171. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is assisting the family.
