Ms. Lora Hopkins Griffith, age 94 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. She was born in Patrick County on March 3, 1918 to the late Joseph E. Hopkins and Maude West Hopkins. In addition to her parents, Ms. Griffith was preceded in death by her step-mother, Maude Soyars Hopkins and two brothers, Lloyd Hopkins and Hoy Hopkins. She was also preceded in death by Mr. And Mrs. C. A. Akers, special family members who were her caregivers after her mother died. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, and had worked for United Elastic Corporation.
Ms. Griffith is survived by one son, Harold Griffith of Stuart; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Perry Smith and husband, Rolf, of Stuart; four grandchildren, Rhonda Cooper and husband, Charles, Becky Harris and husband, Jeff, Kent Griffith and Andrea Camper; seven great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Harris, Perry Cooper, Bennett Cooper, Joshua Griffith, Anna Critz and husband, Ben, Megan Griffith and Cody Camper; one step-brother, Lloyd Soyars of Florida; two half-brothers, George Hopkins of Stuart and Clint Hopkins of Roanoke; four half-sisters, Dorothy Tatum, Anita Cox, Mae Pace and Marie Edwards, all of Stuart; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ms. Griffith will be held Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the homeplace.
