Ms. Ruth Ann Williams Arrington

Ms. Ruth Ann Williams Arrington, age 90, of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at Central Continuing Care. Ms. Arrington was born in Surry County on October 21, 1925 to James Roma and Martha Jane Flippen Williams. She was a loving mother, grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. Ms. Arrington was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jerry Cooke of Mt. Airy, Shirley and Kenneth Hollingsworth of Advance, NC and Carol and Mark Hicks of Mt. Airy, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Arrington of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Melissa Shipwash and husband Erik, Brian Hayes and fiancée Clara Cummings, Angela Atkins, Andrew Hollingsworth, Philip Hollingsworth and wife Esther, Bailey Jordan, Nicole Hooker and husband Ben; nine great grandchildren, sisters, Margaret Yates, Allene Gilley, and Virginia Sexton; a special sister-in-law, Betty Smith and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Arrington was preceded in death by a devoted and loving son, Johnny Ray Arrington and sisters, Elsie Easter and Lois Hodge. Funeral services will be held Friday January 29, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Shelton Church of the Brethren, lying in state 30 minutes before the service. The services will be conducted by Rev. Ted Turner and Mr. Kenneth Hollingsworth. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Central Continuing Care Activities Department at 1287 Newsome St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Central Continuing Care for all their love and care given to Ruth during her stay with them; and also a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. The family will be receiving friends at other times at the home of the daughter Janet Cooke, 309 Orchard St. Mt. Airy, NC.
