Ms. Vernell Stevens

Ms. Vernell Stevens, age 84 of Pinnacle, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on March 24, 1931 to Edd and Annie Short Stevens. Ms. Stevens was such a beautiful lady, not only outside but especially on the inside. She will always be remembered for her kind and loving heart. Mrs. Stevens was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain. Left to cherish her dear memory are daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Hice, Vickie and Calvin “Cotton” Payne; Kathy and Jim Wilson; and Lisa and Michael Grezmak; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sheree Barnard; grandchildren, Mark Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Chad Barnard, Justin Barnard, Daniel Payne, Melissa Wall, Zack Barnard and Joseph Grezmak; great grandchildren, Evan Barnard, Max Barnard, Juliet Barnard, Ainsley Barnard, Jacob Payne, Andrew Payne, Makenzie Wall, Adelyn Wall; a sister, Claudia Hicks; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Stevens. In addition to her parents, Ms. Stevens was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ann Stevens, and by a brother, Edward Stevens. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kristi Rolison. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at noon at the funeral home. The family would like to express a very special thanks to a devoted granddaughter, Melissa Wall, a devoted son-in-law, Michael Grezmak and her compassionate, loving caretaker Christine Mabe and Mountain Valley Hospice for the special love care given to their mother.
