Myrtle Joyce Kirkman Beaver

Ms. Myrtle Joyce Kirkman Beaver, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Ms. Beaver was born February 21, 1917, in Surry County, to the late David Fletcher and Flora Gammons Joyce. She was a homemaker, retired from Oakdale Knitting, and a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tom Brintle of Mount Airy; a special daughter-in-law, Linda Kirkman of Mount Vernon, TX; nine special grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Kim Brintle of Tazewell, VA, Monica and Clay Boyington of Jacksonville, NC, Lynn Defina of Jersey City, NJ, Mark and Alice Kirkman of Mount Airy, Daphne and Tony Wright of Lowgap, Timothy and Heather Kirkman of King, and Kelly and Tiffany Kirkman, Hope and Kelly Bogue, and Holly and Chris Gutherie, all of Mount Vernon, TX; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Vernice Hutchens of Mount Airy and Estelle Gordon of Pinnacle; and two half-brothers and their spouses, Bobby and Lillian Joyce of Pilot Mountain and Red and Mary Frances Joyce of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Ms. Beaver was preceded in death by her stepmother, Vallie Watson Joyce; a son, Treva Gray Kirkman; and an infant son, Billy Gray Kirkman. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Chamblin, and burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:30 PM until the hour of the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
