Myrtle Ruth Spivey Lewis

Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Spivey Lewis, 85, of Mount Airy, went to be with her heavenly Father peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, after an extended illness. Mrs. Lewis was born November 9, 1921, in Greene County, to the late Robert and Bertha Spivey. Ruth lived in Mount Airy for over 40 years and was greatly loved in the community as "Mamma Lewis." She devoted many years as a substitute teacher in the Surry County Schools. She was a faithful member of Franklin Heights Methodist Church until her health declined. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Bruce "Bob" Lewis, Jr. and Sharon Lewis of Portland, OR, Michael Joseph "Mike" and Margie Lewis of Richland, WA, and Phillip Anthony "Tony" and Karen Lewis of Knightdale; and four beloved granddaughters, Laurel Boardman of Portland, OR, Karlie Megan Lewis of Birmingham, AL, Abigail Rose Lewis of McMinnville, OR, and Hillary Carol Lewis of Raleigh. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bruce Lewis, Sr., and her siblings. The children and grandchildren would like to extend their gratitude to Cam and Wimpie Burge, Kenny Kallam, and all of Ruth's many friends for their devoted friendship and assistance in helping the family with her care. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Franklin Heights Methodist Church in Mount Airy. A reception for the family members will be held at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Franklin Heights Methodist Church, 416 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
