Nancy Turpin Chandler

Mrs. Nancy Turpin Chandler, 69, of Carrollton, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. Mrs. Chandler was born February 4, 1947, in McDowell County, NC, to the late William Leonard and Hessie Waters Turpin. Nancy worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for many years and was member of the Christian faith. She is survived by a daughter, Shana C. Shannon of Carrollton, VA; a son, Robert Leonard “Len” Chandler of Carrollton, VA; a granddaughter, Ashleigh Caroline Shannon of Carrollton, VA; a grandson, Patrick Shannon of Carrollton, VA; a sister, Patsy Bryant Akers and her husband, Charles Akers, of Mount Airy, NC; a niece, Jennifer Bryant Freeman of Mount Airy, NC; a nephew, Bobby Ray Bryant, Jr. and his wife, Charlotte Bryant, of Mount Airy, NC; three great nieces; and two great nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Chandler; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Ray Bryant, Sr. A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 27, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Chris Benfield and the Rev. Jimmy Slate officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is assisting the family.
