Nancy Verona Welborn Hiatt

Mrs. Nancy Verona Welborn Hiatt age 85 of 159 Poteat Road, Mt. Airy, NC widow of Mr. Porter Hiatt passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at her home. She was born October 21, 1922 in Surry County to the late Herbert and Laura Peele Welborn. She was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren and was a homemaker. Mrs. Hiatt was retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca Smith, Mt. Airy and Ann and Dennis Faw, Mt. Airy three sons and daughters-in-law, Gilmer and Debbie Hiatt, Mt. Airy and Arthur Hiatt, of the home, Joel and Teresa Hiatt, Mt. Airy, 16 grandchildren 6 step-grand grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Irene Morris, Mt. Airy, Claudine and Doug Norman, Walnut Cove, a brother, Richard Welborn, Pilot Mountain. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bruce Smith, a granddaughter, Heather Hiatt, step granddaughter, Amber Martin, six brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Shelton Church of the Brethren conducted by Rev. Ed West, Rev. Clinton Branch and Rev. Todd Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Friday at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where her body will remain until carried to the Church to lie in State 30 minutes prior to the service.
