Nancy Elsie Edwards Vaughn

Mrs. Nancy Elsie Edwards Vaughn, 94, a resident at Northern Hospital of Surry County, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008. Mrs. Vaughn was born September 24, 1914, in Surry County, to the late John and Ada Holt Edwards. Mrs. Vaughn graduated from High Point Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Duke Power and Carolina Plastics before her marriage to Samuel R. Vaughn. She was a homemaker and active in the Cub Scouts and Brownie Scouts. Mrs. Vaughn was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Mount Airy Country Club, where she participated in many tournaments. She is survived by her siblings, Delsie Edwards Wolson of Mount Airy, Ted Edwards of Dobson, Thelma Edwards Haynes of Dobson, and Doris Edwards Vanella and husband, Roc, of Newport News, VA; and many nieces and nephews from the Edwards and Vaughn families. Surviving also are her son, Charles Walter Vaughn and his wife, Martha Rowe Vaughn, of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Sallie Elizabeth Vaughn of Durham; and a stepgrandson, Christopher James Ihara and his wife, Leslie, and their two children, Emma Ihara and Ben Ihara of Aldie, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Vaughn; a sister, Vesta Edwards Snider; and three brothers, Carl Edwards, Noah Edwards, and Alvin Edwards. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. John Ferree, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The Vaughn family greatly appreciates the loving care she received from the special people in the long-term care unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
