Ned Herman Martin

Mr. Ned Herman Martin, age 93, of the Beulah community passed away on January 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Martin was born on October 25, 1928, in Surry County to the late Claude Swanson and Nealy Atkins Martin. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ivylyn Sparger Martin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Martin Shelton and husband Johnny, Joy Martin Richardson and husband Ricky; four grandchildren, Christy Shelton, Jonathan Shelton who is studying in Israel, Sara Richardson, and Cole Richardson. Mr. Martin graduated from Beulah High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He returned from the army to run the family farm. After 41 years he retired from the Dairy business in 1990, but not from work. His work ethic and love of the outdoors kept him busy setting and trimming trees and working with cattle. He was well known for his humorous storytelling, weed eating, and gardening abilities. Ned was a member of the Round Peak Masonic Lodge AF&AM # 616 for 66 years, a member of the Scottish Rites and a charter member of the Lowgap Wildlife Club. He served on the United Dairies Board of Directors in Greensboro, the Beulah School Board committees, Beulah Ruritan Club, and the Skull Camp Fire Department Board of Directors. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Swanson and Nealy Atkins Martin; a sister, Fern Martin Holder; and a brother, Wiley Clarence Martin. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Carlton Brown and Elder Lowell Hopkins officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted the Round Peak Masonic Lodge AF&AM # 616. Burial will be held at a later date at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 17, 2022, 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beulah Community Center, 5012 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
