Nellie "Nell" Ruth Simmons

Mrs. Nellie "Nell" Ruth Bowman Simmons, 96, of Ruffin, SC, formerly of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Surry County on July 10, 1923 to the late George Archibald Bowman and Nannie Jones Bowman.  Mrs. Simmons enjoyed people and had a wonderful sense of humor.  After the death of her husband, Mrs. Simmons moved to Ocean Lakes and remained active working, socializing with many friends, and playing Bingo.  She was a very loving person and will be deeply missed by everyone.  Left to cherish her memories are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan “Susie” Dianne Simmons Henry and Mike Henry; a son and daughter-in-law, James Michael Simmons, Sr. and Arcadia Simmons; grandchildren; Mike Simmons, Jr., Tina Wilson, Stephanie Holmes, Rose Dillard, Magaly Brown, Lisa Henry, Jamie Henry Huggins, Laura Harris, Will Simmons, Robert Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Brianna Simmons, Randall Simmons, Jr., and Robert Goins; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews and her Beloved Dog “Doodle”.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis Simmons; a son Randall Curtis Simmons; a grandson Ronnie Watts; a sister Mary Monday; brothers, Lester Bowman and Edward Bowman.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Grace Moravian Church with Dr. Neil Routh officiating and Rev. Charles Fishel.  Burial will follow in God’s Acre.  The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N.
