Mrs. Nellie Grey Shaw Poore, 93, of 110 New Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Poore was born January 1, 1915, in Bluefield, WV, to the late William and Alice Bedsaul Shaw. She was a homemaker, retired from Spencer's Inc., and a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Jones and Sandra and Douglas Hooker, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and two spouses, Richard and Susan Jones of Winston-Salem, Steven Hooker of Mount Airy, and Tracey and Craig Basiliere of Lake Worth, FL; six great-granddaughters, Ashley Hooker, Jessica Hooker, Abby Hooker, Lexie Jones, Brooke Basiliere, and Lindsey Basiliere; and two step-great-grandsons, Jason Basiliere and Chris Basiliere. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poore was preceded in death by her husband, Arlis Taylor Poore; a sister, Virginia Sorrell; and four brothers, Homer Shaw, Leonard Shaw, James Shaw, and Paul Shaw. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd E. Byrd, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 PM until time of the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Central Continuing Care and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
