Mrs. Nellie Ruth Parks Spencer, 88, of Lambsburg, VA, passed away early Monday morning, August 28, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Spencer was born May 7, 1929, in Fries, VA, the daughter of the Garnett H. and Eliza Patton Parks. Nellie retired from Carroll County School System after 38 years of service and was a member of Bottom Road Tabernacle. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and James Barnette of Lexington and Glenda and Glenn Piper of Mooresville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Sheila Spencer of Mount Airy, David Spencer of Lexington, and Terry Spencer of Shelby; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Polly Brooms of Fries, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, William Aaron Spencer; a great-grandchild, Morgan Haley Edwards; four sisters, Lois Beatrice Parks (infant), Katy Mae Akers, Linna Anders, and Willie Rose Sizemore; and a brother, William B. Parks. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kelly Haynes officiating. A private interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or Bottom Road Tabernacle, 112 Bottom Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
