Nina Mae Cockerham Simmons

Mrs. Nina Mae Cockerham Simmons, age 75, of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Surry Community Health and Rehab. Mrs. Simmons was born in Surry County on February 8, 1942, to Kelly and Maggie Cockerham. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. Those who will always cherish her memory are daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Willard, Brenda and Jeff Bowman, and Carolyn and Tig Hegler; grandchildren, Sarah Abernathy, Emily Hegler, Courtney Hegler, and Andrew Hegler; a great grandson, Samuel Owen Abernathy; a sister, Mary Lou Rigney; a brother, Albert Cockerham; a brother-in-law, Grover Holder; and a very special cousin Georgie Edwards. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Simmons; a sister, Alberta Holder and an infant sister, Ella Mae Cockerham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 13, 2017 at Oak Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Grover Holder and Rev. Alton Bledsoe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.
