Mrs. Nonnie Vera Hudson Monday, 91, of Cana, VA, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Monday was born January 19, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Ed Jacob and Nora Jane Creed Hudson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a homemaker, enjoyed quilting and gardening, and was well known for her beautiful roses. Mrs. Monday is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Norman Blanchard of Floyd, VA; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard Monday of Winston Salem, Junior and Jo Monday of Dugspur, VA, and Arthur and Denna Monday of Cana, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Donald and Danielle Blanchard of Staunton, VA, Earl Blanchard of Shawsville, VA, Daniel and Kelly Monday and LeAnn and Josh Pickett, all of Cana, VA, Matthew Monday of King, and Cody Monday of Wilmington; three great-grandchildren, Katie Monday, Korbin Monday, and Susannah Blanchard; sisters, Una Seal of Mount Airy and Josephine Griffin of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Monday was preceded in death by her husband, Ophir Monday; and two sisters, Betty Glass and Ila Hill. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, by the Rev. Jerry Keegan. Burial will follow in the Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Cana Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 40, Cana, VA 24317. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and Dr. John Tracy for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Monday during her illness.
