Mr. Norman Dale Overton, age 77, of Dobson, passed away peacefully at High Point Regional Hospital from complications arising from Covid-19, virus on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Unable to have his family at his side, it was a comfort that palliative care providers stayed at his side as he passed into his eternal home.
Dale was born, September 25, 1943 in Windmill Gap, Mercer County West Virginia, to James William and Dorothy Simmons Overton. He was retired from Sarah Lee Hosiery in Mount Airy N.C.
Dale was a walking miracle throughout his adult life. After surviving a serious automobile accident when he was 18 years old, Dale lived his life to serve and tell others about his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an example of faith and love to all who knew him and was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church for over 52 years.
Dale lived his life simply, finding joy in his family, his friends, and his faith. He enjoyed gospel and old country music, Duke basketball, laughing with his family, and teaching his nieces and nephews to play Rook. He had an uncanny way to reach out to people with love and laughter.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Overton. He is survived by two brothers, Marvin (Faye) Overton of Reidsville and Dexter Overton of Dobson; by two sisters, Mona (Willie) Luffman of Mount Airy and Janie (John) Garris of Dobson, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dale’s family would like to express special thanks to the hospital staff and physicians at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and High Point Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown during this extremely distressing ordeal.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2021 in the New Life Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Oscar Hill officiating. There will be no visitation. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Overton Family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 3080 Haystack Road, Mount Airy N.C. 27030.
