Odell ‘Haywood’ Tompkins passed away in Winston Salem, North Carolina on Friday, April 5, 2024. He was 56 years old. He was born in Forsyth County on June 24, 1967, to Odell and Carol Tompkins. He graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1985.
Haywood is preceded in death by his grandparents, Young and Rachie Tompkins, Arnold and Virgie Bowman, and his dad, Odell Tompkins. He is survived by his mother Carol Tompkins, brother, Henry Tompkins, sister Melinda (Stephen) Shepherd, son Odell Tyler Tompkins, 1 grandchild Haywood Tyler Tompkins, 2 nephews Patrick (Claire) Anderson and 2 great-nieces, and Brandon Boyd.
He showed his love for his family by spending time with them. He enjoyed going to the movies with his brother, Henry. He loved watching his nephews, Patrick and Brandon, while they grew up. He had many other aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved dearly. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friend Forest Patterson.
Haywood loved his rock n roll music, Motley Crue, Kiss and Elvis. He spent time playing video games and watching movies. He was his momma’s protector and loved taking care of her.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:45 on Friday April 12, 2024, at Moody’s Funeral Home, 206 West Pine Street, Mt. Airy, NC. A brief graveside service at Little Pine Church of the Brethren, 2740 Barrett Rd, Ennice, NC.
