Mrs. Odessa Riggan Skipper, of Dobson, passed away Friday, September 10, 2010, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Skipper was born May 5, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Jackson and Ethel Hodge Riggan. She was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons and a daughter-in-law, Bobby Skipper and Buster and Rhonda Skipper, all of Greensboro; two daughters-in-law, Mary Skipper of Mount Airy and Ann Skipper of Greensboro; a granddaughter and her husband, Cathy and Kenneth Austin of Dobson; two great-grandchildren, Chrissy Austin and Raymond Austin; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gaither and Ruth Smith of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Skipper was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Skipper; a son, Roger Skipper; two sisters; and five brothers. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 13, 2010, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Riggans Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Crystal and Kelly, and the staff of Surry Home Health for the loving, compassionate care given to Mrs. Skipper and her family during their time of need.
