Mr. Oklas James “O.J.” Harold, Sr., 82, of Franklin, IN, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community. He was born May 5, 1936, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Fogle and Vergie Bowman Harold. He was a United States veteran of the United States Air Force. He had been employed by Flat Rock School System in Hope, IN, for several years in the maintenance department. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and watching college basketball, especially North Carolina teams. Survivors include his daughter, Chandy Wilcoxon (David) of Trafalgar, IN; four grandchildren, Brandon Hannebaum of Franklin, IN, Melissa Brown of Trafalgar, IN, Travis J. Harold (Jackie) of Greenwood, IN, and Derrick B. Harold of Greenwood, IN; five great-grandchildren, Kaylie Demaree, Whitney Hannebaum, Taylor Hannebaum, Brayden Hannebaum, and Carter Harold; a daughter-in-law, Debbie J. (Gammon) Harold of Greenwood, IN; his former spouse, Carol K. (Kendrick) Harold of Franklin, IN; and a brother, Dennis Harold (Bev) of Nashville, TN. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harold was preceded in death by a son, Oklas James “Okie” “O.J.” Harold, Jr. on June 7, 2018. The Reverend Thomas Knight will conduct a service on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 4:00 PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN, where friends may call from 1:00 PM till the service time. Military honors conducted by the United States Air Force will follow the service. Friends may call also on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home, 206 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC, with a graveside to follow at Harold Cemetery in Ararat, VA.
