Mrs. Ola Dunbar Moser, 94, of Mount Airy, widow of Cletius Henry Moser, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Moser was born March 31, 1917, in Surry County, to the late Jesse Columbus and Josephine Jones Dunbar. She had a brother, the late Elmer Dunbar. After graduating from Franklin High School, Ola also graduated from Cosmetology School in North Wilkesboro. She married Cletius Henry Moser in 1936 and they were together for 45 years until his death in 1981. Cletius and Ola farmed, raising tobacco and cattle. Ola worked hard to provide for her family: cooking, canning, and freezing food, sewing clothes for her four children, making delicious biscuits, and churning butter, along with the many farm chores. Ola successfully lobbied the legislature to make South Franklin Road safer near Airview Drive. She often visited the sick and lent many a helping hand to those in need. She was a lifelong member of Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church. She loved her church and its people and worked hard to keep up the graveyard and to improve the church. Ola is survived by her four children, Greta and William Boyd, Arnold and Brenda Arrington Moser, Portia Oakley and friend, Barry Sain, Deborah and Terry "Chuck" Beasley, and a son-in-law, Roy Oakley. Her grandchildren are Kerry (Bonnie) Boyd, Dayne (Ashley) Boyd, Nathan Boyd, Randy (Donna) Moser, Eric (Donna) Moser, Shawn (Teresa) Moser, Sabrina Oakley, and Drew Beasley. Great-grandchildren are Anthony and Zachary Moser, Daniel and Bailey Moser, Ethan and Matthew Moser, Kendall Oakley, and Emmett and Rowan Boyd; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Tilley; and a cousin, Mary Gardener Hutchins, who was like a sister. The family would like to express their thanks to Ola's loving caregivers, Sandra Cornell, Linda Surratt, Karen Surratt, and Thelma Goings, and to the entire staff of hospice for their devoted service to Ola and her family. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2011, at Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Allen Terry and Elder Larry Hollandsworth. Burial will follow in the Old Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night, June 26, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Old Hollow Cemetery Fund, c/o Richard Bullis, 163 East Laurel Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or flowers will be accepted.
