Ola Mae Sands Dowdy

Mrs. Ola Mae Sands Dowdy, age 92 of Mount Airy passed away Friday morning November 3, 2023, at her home.  She was born November 10, 1930, in Rockingham County to the late James Anderson Sands and Eva Freeman Sands.  She loved to make bead ornaments, work with her flowers and watch the hummingbirds, she also enjoyed reading and taking care of her many Christmas cacti.  Grandma loved to watch her General Hospital and The Price Is Right.  You better not be bothering her during these times either!  Surviving are her daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and Anthony Carter, and Sheryl Angel; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Florena Dowdy, Bob and Scarlett Dowdy, and Sam Dowdy; grandchildren, David Carter and wife, Christy, Jessica Carter, Shantel Jay-Peterson and husband, Jayson, Danny Dowdy, Kayla Miller, Meredith Dowdy and Oshyn Bryant; great grandchildren, D. J. Carter, Madison Carter, Leilani Jay-Peterson, Hannah Jay-Peterson, Keana Khandowdy, Rolyn Miller, and Alaina Miller; and a sister-in-law, Joan Sands.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dowdy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald Warren Dowdy; two sisters, Rachel Bullins and Minnie Wood; and by two brothers, James Sands and Otis Sands.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday November 6, 2023, at Grace Moravian Church Conducted by Rev. Andrew Heil.  Burial will follow in God’s Acre.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 until 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Moravian Church at 1401 N. Main St. Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for the care provided during the last three weeks.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
