Oliver Gabriel Key, Jr.

Mr. Oliver Gabriel Key, Jr., 94, of Ararat, NC, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home Thursday, February 3, 2022.  He was born in Surry County, February 7, 1927, to the late Oliver Gabriel Key and Nina Terrell Key.  Mr. Key served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.  Mr. Key was a faithful member of Blackwater United Methodist Church where he was always eager to work on any project.  He was the last surviving charter member of Eldora Ruritan Club, very active and always loyal to attend the meetings since 1961.  He was a well-known farmer throughout the community. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his family and friends anytime he could.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nina (Liz) Key; a grandson Jayme Key; and step-grandson, Jeremy Wilder.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Key was preceded in death by his wife Della Maye Stanley Key; a grandson Gabriel Wayne Key; sisters, Alma Danley, Myrtle May Danley, and Opal Edmonds; and a brother James Key.  The funeral service will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:00 PM.  Mr. Key will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  Due to health concerns the family respectfully ask attendants to wear mask.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt.
