Mrs. Opal Lane McMillian Collins, age 82, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Novant-Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Collins was born on February 27, 1941 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late John Cassell and Rhoda Gwynn McMillian. Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving are her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannie and Frank Montgomery, Patty and Charles Montgomery; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Dianne Collins, Danny and Misty Collins, David and Crystal Collins; special grandson, Christopher Smith; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Chester McMillian; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elbert Eugene “Gene” Collins; and two brothers, James John McMillian, Haskell McMillian. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at North Side Baptist Church with Reverend Dean Eaton officiating. Interment will follow in the Collins Family Cemetery in Ararat, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at North Side Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
