Ms. Opal Watson Gwyn of Mount Airy, NC went to her heavenly home on May 18, 2020 at the age of 92. Born October 30, 1927 to Lacy and Lizzie Watson, Opal began her life working the tobacco fields and helping to raise her six younger siblings. She would tell many stories of them getting into trouble or having to rock them to sleep at night. Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roy Gwyn; brother, Jack Watson; sister, Norma Lee Busick. She is survived by her two children Roger (Donna) Gwyn and Libby (Randall) Vernon; her siblings Vertie Ball, Bill Watson, Irene Puckett, JoAnn Slate, and Ray Watson; and her grandchildren Matt (Eve) Vernon, Kayla Gwyn, Danielle (Kenric) Carter, and Ben Shneiderman; and great grandchildren Eli Heilig, Audrey Carter and Kensten Carter. She was a devout Christian woman who attended Little Mountain Baptist Church and worked until she was 90 years old at Wendy's in King, NC. Being mindful of the social distancing rules put in place by the governor a funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Little Mountain Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Bill Watson. Mrs. Gwyn will be available for viewing at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 10:30 AM until 5:00 PM on Friday May 22, 2020. The family would like to thank Stokes County E.M.S as well as Dr. Nunn, Dr. Hoth, the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as well as the staff at Mountain View Medical for all their care and support during Mrs. Gwyn’s illness.
