Opal Julene Redman Jones

Mrs. Opal Julene Redman Jones, 92, of Newport News, VA, passed away Tuesday night, December 6, 2022, at Mennowood Retirement Community.  Mrs. Jones was born February 1, 1930, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Otis Alston and Gatrina Simmons Redman.  Opal retired from Asheville Mica Company and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.  She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Garry Jones, Danny Ray and Barbara Jones, and Steven and Lois Jones, all of Newport News, VA; her grandchildren, Meghan and Tommy Doyle, Danielle and Mike Howard, Travis and Caitlin Jones, and Gavin Jones; and her great-grandchildren, Tommy Doyle, Noah Howard, and Katelyn Jones.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston Allen Jones; and two brothers, Phillip Redman and Wade Redman.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery.  No formal visitation will be held.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
