Opal Geneva Sawyers

Mrs. Opal Geneva Sawyers, age 80, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Surry County on May 7, 1939 to the late Doc and Delie Lawson Sawyers.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her.  Left to cherish her memories are a daughter and sons-in-law, Penny Wall and Tim Childress, Danny Norman; son, Mark Wall; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Janet Sexton Mabe; sister Peggy Draughn; best friend, Polly Lawson; special friends, Dana Hunter, Darlene and Bobby Beck, Gary Sawyers, Brandy Mayes, Lynn Childress and Ronnie Hunt.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Sawyers was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Sexton; sons, Junior and Jimmy Sexton; daughter, Cindy Norman; sisters, Myrtle Sawyers, Phillis Chappell and Faye Sawyers; brothers, Cecil and Clarence Sawyers as well as three nieces and two nephews.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by Rev. Gary Sawyers.  Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the funeral home.  The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and care during Mrs. Sawyers’s illness.
