Mrs. Opal Culler Tolbert, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Tolbert was born September 15, 1922, in Surry County, to Roby Wesley and Lucy Hayzee Culler. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 45 years of service, where she made many wonderful friends. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. For the past four plus years, she lived at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County. "The family would like to thank each and every person who works in the Skilled Nursing Unit for their dedication and loving care they give to all the patients there. They are too numerous to name, but each member of that group needs to know that they are loved and appreciated." "We would also like to thank hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Tolbert." Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Karen Butcher of Lowgap; grandchildren, Kelly Holbrook of Mount Airy, Bradley Butcher of Canton, OH, and Charlie Butcher of Wilmington; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mitchell and Evelyn Culler of Asheboro and Frank and Janice Culler of Augusta, GA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tolbert was preceded in death by both her husbands, Charlie Butcher and Emmitt Tolbert; and two sisters, Ellen Heath and Mary Rausher. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 4, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Woody Flippin and the Rev. Chris Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moody Funeral Home on behalf of Mrs. Tolbert.
