Opal Mae Watson

Mrs. Opal Mae Simpson Watson, 97, of Mt. Airy passed away at Ridgecrest Sunday, August 11, 2019.  Mrs. Watson was born in Surry County May 15, 1922 to the late Tyra McKinley and Roxie Badgett Simpson.  She retired from Renfro Corporation and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.  Mrs. Watson will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and son-in-law, Anita Goins, Amy and James Cowles; a son and daughter-in-law, Alton Watson and Phyllis Ingles Watson; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband Arlin J. Watson; a son, Tyra Watson; a son-in-law Fred Goins, Jr.; sisters, Ina Scott, Lenora Frye, Faye Frances Atkins and Ann Nifong; and brothers, Claude and Carl Simpson.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating.  A private interment will follow after the service.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1247 Park Dr., Mt.
