Mrs. Opal Clarine Spence Wood, age 73 of Dobson, passed away at her home on Sunday morning February 11, 2007. She was born in Surry County on July 16, 1933 to the late Esker Taylor Spence and the late Millie Ann Wall Spence. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Marion Cooper. She was retired from Tultex and was a member of Rockford Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Karen W. and Lewis Draughon of Dobson; her son and daughter-in-law William Riley Wood Jr. and Sandra B. Wood of Dobson; by two grandchildren Zachary Draughon and Courtney Wood both of Dobson; her former husband, Riley Wood, Sr,; her brother Eddie Vernon Spence and wife June, of Winston-Salem,; a brother-in-law, Franklin Cooper of Sumter, SC and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Rockford Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Ayers and Rev. Mitch Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Opal was so grateful for all the love and help given to her during her illness, and the family would like to thank her special cousins, Kate, Landa and Rosa;her friends, neighbors and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all the love and support given to them. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Rockford Baptist Church Cemetery Fund C/O Mr. Thomas Rowe 4104 Rockford Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
