Mr. Oscar Hoyle Yokley, Jr., 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021. He was born December 17, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Oscar Hoyle Yokley, Sr. and Mary Emily Wilkinson Yokley. Bud was a fun-loving guy who loved spending time with his many friends in Mount Airy and Bonita Springs, FL, playing golf, building radios and various items from wood, adventure sailing in the Caribbean, and, in later years, tending to the birds on his balcony and the cats in his lap. His career was spent at Mount Airy Furniture Company, where he, along with his father, his brother, Hale Yokley, his nephew, Johnny Yokley, and his cousins, Mike Malmo and Bowman George, were owners and corporate officers. He graduated from Mount Airy High School and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a degree in business administration. Bud is survived by his children, Mary Emily Cooke, Elizabeth B. Tickle, James F. Yokley, and Laura B. Yokley; his grandchildren, Mary Anne Helm, Michael A. Tickle and his girlfriend, Becki Hazen, Sonnie C. Hardy and her husband, Stan, and Stacy C. Smith; his great-grandchildren, Lucian Helm, Zane Hardy, Sophie Smith, and Porter Smith; a sister, Anne Y. Graves; a sister-in-law, Sarah S. Denmark; a brother-in-law, John Springthorpe; as well as special friends, Nancy Lovill, Jessie Strickland, Cathy Wiles, Jill Simpson, and Vicky Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Jacqueline Springthorpe Yokley; a brother, Hale Yokley; a sister, Sara Y. Conley; and a son-in-law, Wayne Cooke. A special thank you is extended to the Reverend Sarah Morris, who became a good friend to him, and Mountain Valley Hospice caregivers at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Sarah Morris officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1043, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
