Ossie Iola Gwyn Atkins Norwood

Ms. Ossie Iola Gwyn Atkins Norwood, 85, of 862 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Ms. Norwood was born October 23, 1921, in Carroll County, VA, to the late James "Jim" and Martha Ellen Tolbert Gwyn. She was a homemaker, retired from Lynn Hosiery, and of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy A. and Rixie Gordon of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Norwood was preceded in death by two daughters, Charlotte Atkins and an infant daughter, four sisters, Maude Taylor, Savanah Morris, Susie Gwyn, and Ola Rigney; three brothers, Dock Gwyn, Kernal Gwyn, and Walter Gwyn; two half-sisters, Lessie Vaughn and Ella Ayers; and two half-brothers, Jesse Gwyn and Lawrence Fulp. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Gwyn Family Cemetery in Cana, VA. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Doug Cockerham. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Saturday morning from 9:00 until the time to depart to the cemetery for the graveside service.
