Pastor Aaron Paul Combs, 84 of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Pastor Combs was born in Forsyth County on April 30, 1927 to the late Victor Layfayette and Rebbie Belle Combs. He was a member of Bottom Road Tabernacle where he was the minister for 47 years. He served our country in WWII and the Korean conflict where he received a purple heart. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Combs of the home; a son, two daughters and son-in-law, Paulette and Harold Shinault, and Diana Nunn all of Mt. Airy; a son, Mark Combs of the home; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Opal Bryant of Lambsburg, VA; a brother, Eugene Combs of Lambsburg, VA; his special pet Baby of the home. In addition to his parents Pastor Combs was preceded in death by two sisters, Fatha Irene Blackburn and Maybelle Hawks; four brothers, Leonard Gray, Allen Wade, Victor Layfayette and Kelly Ray "Ted" Combs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bottom Road Tabernacle with Rev. Dud Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019, Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family would to thank the entire congregation of Bottom Road Tabernacle for their love and support. The family will receive friends 7-9 Friday at Bottom Road Tabernacle.
