Pat John " PJ" Snow, Jr.

Mr. Pat John “PJ” Snow, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his home. He was born in Carroll County, VA, April 25, 1933, the son of the late Pat John Snow, Sr., and Ruth Daniel Snow. Mr. Snow was a graduate of Mount Airy High School and received his bachelor's degree from Lees-McRae University and Catawba College. He started his career in banking in Jupiter, Florida. He was very active in his community; served as president of the Jupiter Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Palm Beach County Cancer Crusade, chairman of the Children’s Home Society of Florida, founding officer of the Lighthouse Gallery and School of Art, chairman of the Palm Beach Expressway Authority, and was a lay leader and founding member of organizing two local Methodist Churches In the 1987 he moved back to Mount Airy to be the Chief Executive Officer of Workmen’s Federal Savings Bank and held that position until the bank merged with Southern National Bank. He was also very active in the Mount Airy community serving on the board of Mount Airy Museum of Regional History and currently is the treasurer and was a member of the Mount Airy Rotary Club. After his retirement from banking, he and his son started Snow Mountain Properties in Fancy Gap. He was veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Joy Hays Snow; his children, Lisa Blevins (Jonathan Mark), Karen Snow, Mitch Snow (Idalina), Bob McKagen (Lauren), Marty McKagen, Cindy Greene (Gil); grandchildren, Sarah McKagen, Matt McKagen, Scott McKagen, Gilbert Greene, Christina Greene, Mally Snow, Natalie Musso, and Patrick Blevins; his brother, Jason Snow (Jean). Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Hope Community Church in Cana, VA with Rev. Anthony Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with graveside rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hope Community Church, 14350 Fancy Gap Highway, Cana, VA 24317, or the American Cancer Society, 7027 Albert Pick Road, Greensboro, NC 27409. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Snow family.
