Mrs. Pattie Sue Goins Shelton peacefully gained her heavenly wings at home on the morning of November 30th, 2022. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother who was nothing shy of a saintly woman. Despite all life’s circumstances, she met everyone with a smile, never complained, never met a stranger, and was deeply loved by everyone.
Pattie was born in her family home on a farm in Westfield, North Carolina on May 16th, 1954 to Lowell and Brooksie Goins. There in which she was raised with her brother Bernie, and two sisters, Patricia and Brenda. From a young age, instilled in her was a drive of hard work, determination, modesty, and an appreciation for the little things in life. She grew up working in the tobacco fields of the family farm, and loved every minute of it. She attended East Surry High School, and was the catcher on the baseball team. Later in life she worked in the Hosiery Mills, and became a caring homemaker.
She loved shopping, yard selling, going to auctions, but most of all attending church and singing. She spent much of her time spoiling grandchildren and great grandchildren to which she held near and dear to her heart. When asked what her greatest accomplishment in life was, she said, “being a mother”. Pattie attended numerous churches over the course of her life, but held a special place in her heart for Pastor Ricky Rogers and his church, Mt. Ararat Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Pattie married the love of her life of 52 years on June 27th 1970, James Clarence Shelton. Together they had two sons, Jamie Shelton and Ramey Shelton. Pattie is survived by her loving husband James C. Shelton; son and daughter-in-law Jamie and Carmella Shelton; daughter- in-law Donna Shelton; six grandchildren Felicia Shelton, James Shelton (Wife Bobbie Shelton), Jimmy Shelton (Wife Megan Shelton), Justin Shelton (Wife Hannah Shelton), Heather Evans (Husband Cody Evans), Ramey Shelton Jr.; seven great-grandchildren Annabelle Grace, Juliana, Ensley, Gabriel, Jimmy Jr, Tatum, and Braden. One special mention, little miss Karley. She is proceeded in death by her father; Lowell Goins, mother; Brooksie Goins, and son; Ramey Shelton.
Pattie fought the good fight, and will always be remembered as the beautiful woman she was. Her viewing will be held at Moody’s Funeral Home in Mt. Airy beginning at 12 noon on Monday, December 5th, and service will begin at 2:00 PM. She will be buried in her family cemetery at her homestead in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, James asks that you donate to Mountain Valley Hospice and/or Westfield Elementary School.
