Mr. Paul Edgar Johnson, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Johnson was born September 28, 1920, in Surry County, to Edgar Lee and Ella Mae Niston Johnson. He served our country in the United States Army and was retired from WPAQ radio station. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Bingman Johnson of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy and Mary Johnson of Mount Airy and Wayne and Dorothy Johnson of Warrington, PA; a special niece, Lou Lambert and her husband, Stephen Quentin, of Winston-Salem; a great niece, Laura Quentin of Winston-Salem; and a great nephew, Mark Quentin of Boulder, CO. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille DeMasters. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Brother Don Collins, Major Terry Edwards, and Captain Michael Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to special friends and neighbors, Roy and Mary Ann Thomas and Kathleen Davis, for the love and special attention given to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.
