Paul Lindsey Merrill

Mr. Paul Lindsey Merrill, 84, of Lowgap, passed away Saturday morning, May 6, 2023, at his home.  Mr. Merrill was born April 8, 1939, in Davidson County, one of eight children born to the late Willard Atlas and Mary Pearl Hughes Merrill.  Paul served our country in the United States Army just as the Vietnam War was emerging.  He worked as a self-employed welder for many years.  He is survived by three sons, James Earl Smith (Mary Lou Gregg), Charles Ray Smith (Carol), and Paul Timothy Merrill; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Merrill; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Merrill was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kaye Gotschall Merrill; a daughter, Teresa Smith; four sisters, Edith Beck, Iris Beaver, Cleo Hulin, and Wilma McDaniel; and two brothers, Virgil Merrill and James Merrill.  No formal visitation or memorial service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Surry Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 981, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
