Mr. Paul Allen "Pete" Sykes, 68, of Dobson, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Sykes was born June 15, 1941, in Surry County, to the late Elder Coy Leonard Sykes and Essie Faye Snow Sykes. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Sykes was a deacon at East Side Baptist Church. Surviving are his devoted wife, Marie Wright Sykes of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Annette Sykes of Mount Airy and Chris and Sandra Sykes of Dobson; five grandchildren, Brandon Sykes, Jacob Sykes, Noelle Sykes, Adam Dalton, and Ryan Dalton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Launa Wilson of Pilot Mountain, Fern and James Key of Mount Airy, and Ginger and Frank Bode of Toast; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Joyce Sykes of Louisville, MS. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at 11:00 AM at East Side Baptist Church, with Brother John Tolliver, Brother Paul Bunke, and Brother Dan Buie officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to Mr. Sykes during his illness.
