Mrs. Pauletta Sparkman Crotts went home to be with Jesus and her husband, Clayton, peacefully in her sleep on Monday morning, September 19, 2022. Mrs. Crotts was born February 14, 1946, in Floyd County, KY, the daughter of the late Willie and Sadie Sparkman. She will be remembered by many and missed as well. Everyone loved her chicken dumplins and her peanut butter fudge. She would make it and then take it to work for everyone to eat. She started volunteering at Northern Regional Hospital in 2004, after her husband passed. She loved working and taking care of people, as she never met a stranger. She made crosses and gave them to everyone she met, and it would make their day. She was known as the thrift store queen; her and her daughter would go shopping and out to eat once a month. She was married to the love of her life, Howard Clayton Crotts, for 38 years before his passing. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Marie and Jeff Cassell; and two very special grandsons, that were her pride and joy, Jordan Samuel Cassell and Jonah Clayton Cassell. Also surviving are a brother, Carvin Sparkman of Hueysville, KY; four sisters, Clara Prater of Hueyville, KY, Alene Prater of Hueysville KY, Imogene Griffith of Lima, OH, and Joyce Sparkman of Hueyville, KY; a very special sister-in-law, Violet Pelfrey of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and her dearest friends, Rebecca, Rachel, and Marylou. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Crotts was preceded in death by five brothers, Dallas Sparkman, Carl “Ted” Sparkman, Otis “Bum” Sparkman, Raymond “Pete” Sparkman, and Ken Sparkman; and three sisters Connie Mosley, Arlene “Ark” Scott, and Macine Sparkman. A homegoing service will be held Friday, September 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Evangelist Jeff Cassell and Pastor Larry Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Regional Hospital Volunteer Program, ATTN: Tina Beasley, P.O. Box 1101, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
