Pauline Martin Southern

Ms. Pauline Martin Southern, 93, of Elkin, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2012. She was born September 7, 1918, in Surry County, the last surviving child of seven of the late Richard Vestal and Mary Idella Bledsoe Martin. Ms. Southern was a retired hairdresser and a member of Salem Fork Christian Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving grandchildren, James Martin Southern of Elkin, Trena Southern and her husband, Mitchell Pearce, of Lewisville, and William Dale Southern of Elkin; a devoted sister-in-law and caregiver, Shirley Martin of Elkin; several special nieces and nephews; and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Raleigh Southern; a son, Alfred Southern; three sisters, Gladys Martin, Bessie Wilmoth, and Dell Wilmoth; and three brothers, Bill Martin, Tom Martin, and Carl Martin. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Salem Fork Christian Church, with Pastor June Haislip officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Fork Christian Church, 2245 White Dirt Road, Dobson, NC 27017. A special thanks to Shirley Martin who went above and beyond the call of duty of a sister-in-law to care for Pauline in her home. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heritage Healthcare for the loving, compassionate care shown to Ms. Southern during her short stay there. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Southern family.
