Mrs. Peggy Fowler Banks, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Banks was born November 12, 1942, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Mallory Clinton “Mac” and Beulah Faye Hardy Fowler. Peggy worked as an inspector at Spencer’s Inc. for many years and later as a seamstress for local bridal shops. She was a longtime and faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Steve Norman of Elkin; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betty Lyons of Lexington; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Bob and Leona Banks of Mount Airy and Inez Banks of Memphis, TN; a special niece and her husband, Robin and Eddie Gammons of Mount Airy; two nephews and their wives, Brandon and Kimberly Whitaker of Elkin and Clint and Jenny Whitaker of Mooresville; a great niece, Emily Gammons of Mount Airy; a great nephew, Chase Gammons of Mount Airy; a cousin and his wife, Ralph and Debbie Cates of Clemmons; a special friend, Patsy Reece of Mount Airy; and her Godchildren, Debbie and Bobby Crouse, Kay and David Puckett, and Amy Jessup, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Banks; and a brother-in-law, James C. Banks. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tyler Hege, the Rev. Dennis W. “Bud” Cameron, and the Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the Isaac Banks Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 2:00 PM in the Fireside Room at Salem United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Isaac Banks Cemetery Fund, c/o Bob Banks, 460 Lovers Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is respectfully serving the family.
