Mrs. Peggy Arlene Watson Fowler, 88, of Ararat, passed away Friday night, December 15, 2023, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Airy. Mrs. Fowler was born May 29, 1935, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Coley Willis and Annie Alice Johnson Watson. Peggy retired from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Earl Eakes; a granddaughter, Cynthia Eakes Pinkston; several nieces and nephews, Louise Watkins, Denise Brady, Tammy Reynolds, Ricky Watson, Benny Watson, Jimmy Watson, and Debra Simmons; and a special friend and caretaker, Lisa Freeman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Lewis Fowler; two sisters, Belvin Watson Booth and Betty Watson Chilton; two brothers, Junior Willis Watson and Arlis Loxley Watson; a niece, Karen Lisa Watson; and a nephew, Elbert Hassell Watson, Jr. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Watson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the Eakes home in the White Plains community.
