Mrs. Peggy Surratt Spencer Hawks, 80, of 167 Beauty Shop Road, Lambsburg, VA, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Hawks was born July 13, 1930, in Surry County, to the late Walter Ed and Kate Taylor Surratt. She retired from Renfro Corporation and was a member of New Beginnings Community Church. Surviving are her husband, Jack Hawks of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and J.F. Easter of Cana, VA, and Tonda and Randall Strickland and Ginger and Jay Williams, all of Lambsburg, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Dud and Toni Spencer of Lambsburg, VA, Greg and Karla Spencer of Lewisville, and Luke and Jean Spencer of King; two stepsons and their wives, Ronnie and Linda Hawks of Goldsboro and Buddy and Dena Hawks of Rural Hall; a step-daughter-in-law, Diane Hawks of Winston-Salem; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Toni Hall and Gypsy Haynes, both of Mount Airy; three brothers, Wesley Surratt and Kelly Surratt, both of Mount Airy, and Mickey Surratt of Fancy Gap, VA; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Billy and Nellie Spencer of Lambsburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Spencer; a stepson, Stanley Hawks; and two sisters, Edna McCraw and Shirley Surratt. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 4, 2010, at 11:00 AM at New Beginnings Community Church, with the Rev. Dud Spencer and the Rev. Wes Mosteller officiating. A private family interment will follow in the Surratt Family Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
