Peggy Lorene Venable Key

Mrs. Peggy Lorene Venable Key, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at her home.  She was born the first of four sisters to the late Burton and Myrtle Simpson Venable on November 4, 1932.  Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Clint Younts of Buda, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Shelia Key of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Sarah Key Buffaloe (Justin), Jacob Key, Ashley Richey (Chris), and Katie Hagemann (Michael); three great-grandchildren, Aidan Richey, Haley Richey, and Aubree Hagemann; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Katie and Wayne Draughn, Jean and Joe Napier, and Linda and Moir Chilton; as well as numerous other family members.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Key was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ray Key.  Lorene was a devoted and faithful member of the John Walker Sunday School Class and the women’s fellowship of Grace Moravian Church.  She was a dedicated volunteer at Foothill Food Pantry in Dobson.  After graduating from Copeland School, she worked at REA in Dobson, and she later worked at Krispy Kreme in Winston-Salem.  She was a caring housewife, mother, and neighbor, always thinking of others.  The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for their care and support.  They would also like to thank Ray’s family, Gary Pruett, Jon Carter, Phyllis and Stanley Rose, and Cecelia Pruitt for their love and support during this difficult time.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 9:00 until 11:00 AM, with a graveside service following at 11:30 AM at God’s Acre (Grace Moravian Church), with the Rev.
