Mrs. Peggy Lou Jarrell Tate, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday evening, September 14, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. Tate was born August 14, 1933, in Surry County, the younger of two children born to the late Zebulon Vance and Rhoda Elizabeth Bowman Jarrell. Peggy retired as a pediatrics outreach worker from the Surry County Health Department and was a longtime and faithful member of Midway Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Marion Tate of Surfside Beach, SC, and Vann and Kim Tate of State Road; six grandchildren, Christopher Goughary, Sean Tate, Dylan Goughary, Jason Tate, Anthony Tate, and Karleigh Tate; a stepgrandchild, Dustin Goughary; and six great-grandchildren, Chloe Goughary, Daniel Goughary, Sophia Goughary, Malia Goughary, Addie Goughary, and Letti Luanne Smith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, Carlie Ray Tate, a retired United States Navy Chief Petty Officer; a daughter, Sherry Luanne Tate Tucker; two sons, Ronnie Tate and Randy “Yogi” Tate; and a brother, Bobby Ray Jarrell, Sr. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Regional Foundation Skilled Nursing Unit, ATTN: Tina Beasley, P.O. Box 1101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Please be sure to designate your contribution as “In Memory of Peggy Jarrell Tate” on the memo line of the check. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
