Pete Coon

Mr. Pete Coon, 65, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010, at his home. Mr. Coon was born August 16, 1945, in Surry County, to Oscar Monroe "Pete" and Nannie Lou Heath "Granny" Coon. He was a retired logger and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Earls Coon of the home; two daughters, Shelia Parker of Boonville and Krystle Coon of Bluefield, WV; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy Coon of Walkertown and Christopher and Angie Coon of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jerry Moser of the home; and a brother, Billy Coon of Mount Airy. A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 10, 2010, at 2:00 PM at McBride Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist, the Rev. Trent Lyons, and the Rev. Robbie Vance officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Sunday from noon until the time to depart to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thanks to Sandy Tilley, Donna Paul, and Chaplain Robbie Vance at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Moody Funeral Services, Inc., P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist with the funeral expenses.
